The early years of Oklahoma State Men’s Basketball (1907–34) were not impressive. There were 9 head coaches for Oklahoma A&M (as the college was known as back then) featuring only 6 winning seasons.

All of that changed when Henry Iba came to OSU in 1934 where he coached for 36 years until his retirement in 1970. Known for his methodical basketball coaching success, OSU was the first team to win back-to-back championships (1945 and 1946).

Iba was also Athletic Director for much of that time and built programs that won 19 national championships in 5 sports. He also coached the USA Olympic basketball teams in 1964, 1968 and 1972, becoming the first USA coach to win back-to-back gold medals.
